When initiating a Prescribed Alternatives program, education and collaboration with law enforcement are important for the success of the program. Law enforcement agencies should be made aware of the program, its purpose, structure and functions.

Law enforcement agencies are recommended to:

  • Connect with a Prescribed Alternatives clinic in the catchment area for education on the program, its purpose, functions, and structure.
  • Communicate with the Prescribed Alternatives team about any patterns of problematic drug use, diversion or potential program obstacles in the community.
  • Communicate with the Prescribed Alternatives team about any potential outreach and engagement opportunities in the community.
